Hello all,
Could someone who are recently travelled via London Heathrow, please let me know what all should be done in order to obtain the DATV visa?
My flight stops there for under 2 hours (for cleaning and refuelling), and I was told I need to get the DATV since my visa expired and my approved AP alone is not enough.
Though I have gone through the required websites, i would still appreciate info from any one who recently experienced getting the DATV and travelling via London. Do I need to send I-485 receipt notice original and EAD as well?
Or is it enought to send the online application, passport, photo and AP originals?
Is there anyway to do everything in person, including handing over documents?
Also, it would be great if you could let me know how long it took to get the visa and your documents back!
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Hello Experts,
I am on H1 and have my labor approved. My spouse is on F1 and we are filing I-140. Would there be a problem?
Because of Retrogression for India we cannot file for I-485 yet.

DMV laws vary from State to State. When I lived in CA they gave me 5+ yrs of DL but In my home state of Minnesota DMV puts status chek date on the DL which is the date of the I94 expiration. They send a letter at home to show the proof of extension otherwise the DL will be cancelled. I am planning to get it extended by using EAD (i haven't received EAD yet and my H1b extension is being applied). I read on Murthy's site that using EAD for DMV pupose doesn't affect the H1b status.

Hi All,
Last year, my company's lawyer had filed EAD and AP for me. This year, the lawyer is giving me an option to file it myself or pay additional 500 dollars for her to file.

I changed jobs after 5.5 years on my H1-B. When the new company filed for H1-transfer i got approval for 3 years based on the I-140 from the previous employer. In this case there was no need to apply for extension, while transferring the visa, I got 3 years. Send I-140 and Perm copies along with the H1-Transfer

I don't know how to explain this in any sensible way without sounding like a nitpicking pedand (but I can't just "not say it"), but my point about the "DOF is always the same for the same framing", was particularly to point out that wide-angle lenses are good for close-to-subject-and-crop, but it does NOT magically give you different focusing or DOF behaviour - it's still the same for the same framing of the subject.
Depending on the layout of the house, using a longer focal range can actually help - there is less rotation of the camera, and that means less change in distance to the subject, meaning that it's easier to get the focus - but that assumes large open areas in the house, which doesn't work well in some situations (my house has no place where you can see much more than about 15 feet in a straight line). It has an added advantage of "you stand further away, so you don't disturb the children quite so much".

NOPE. Canadian citizen can visit the USA without a visa.But to work, you need either a TN visa or plain old H1-B and go through the whole EB drama as usual.

BTW....one can now apply directly to NSC or TSC as per the state they are applying from. This memo became effective June 21 and is mandatory starting July 30.

Why does any one think that those 100 guys will be left out with out any jobs? Wont the 10 fed guys be moved to Chicago/Atlanta NPC's with huge reloc benefits package? If they dont choose to move because of personal reasons, Do you know what kind of severance packages they get?

Several things to consider before making any decisions.
1. Online degree programs usually have lesser value. Maybe if a very reputed university offers it and they specifically mention that your degree wont have any mention of online - then it might be worth looking into.
2. If you wish to change careers and are interested in the university's career resources, first make sure that any online or part-time students have access to those career resources - many universities dont allow their part-time students access to their regular career services - For example, UNC-CH doesnt.
3. If you can, talk to a current student who is enrolled in the program that you are considering - if you talk to the admissions officer of any program, they will be glad to connect you to their current student to answer any questions that you might have. You should ask the person for an honest opinion - do they think its worth it - how do they think it will help their career, etc.
4. Consider how much will it cost and can you manage it - consider the potential increase in earning after you complete the program, get a new and better job or get promotion.
5. Its not just what you learn in the class that will help you -you will develop excellent contacts (if you are in a classroom course). Many times students get job leads through such contacts.
6. Carefully consider what impact will it have on your family life - if you are married and have kids - talk with your wife and consider if you will be able to devote time to studies.
7. Finally, remember, education is the best investment and will never go waste, no matter where life takes you.

I mailed my EAD renewal (Paper filing) with priority mail on 06/23/08 and was received at TSC on 06/26/08 but check has not been en-cashed yet and obviously no receipt. Any body in similar situation? Wanted to know how long it should take get receipt.

She is not out of status but you need to move fast (first 180 days) and talk to some good lawyer.
In 2007 I had a long consultation with a lawyer and told about INS act 245(k)

Congrats to everyone getting greencard approvals. The forward movement of dates has helped a lot of our members. let us hope they keep moving the dates forward and do not waste any visas this year.

What's depressing about the process is that it takes so long for greencard that people dont even remember their priority date by the time they get greencards.
Retrohatao has posted PD of his first GC file as :"Sometime in 1998". Note the word sometime.
This word, "Sometime" shows the delay.
In America, glaciers move faster then the Greencard process.
That's the reason Universities are going to pay a dear price of all this when the next generation of potential students and research scholars dont come here.
