Fashion Questions

Marie @ Marie A La Mode tagged me in a just for fun post. (More questions to answer about myself.)
Here goes:
1 What do you do?

Corp admin at an oil co. and business student

2. What did you name your blog and why?

Kimberdoll. I had a blog before that never took off called "Poetica" but it was more of a literary blog. I wanted this blog to be light and airy, and Kimberdoll seemed to fit the criteria. My first name is Kimberley, and I would love to look like a doll - Kimberdoll was born.

3. Why did you start blogging?

I got inspired by seeing others blogs. I love writing and journalism. I wanted to create a readership.

4. Whose closet would you raid?

I like Nicole Richie's style ... also Blake Lively. But I don't pay enough attention to what celebs are wearing to make an educated decision. My fave designer right now is Marchesa if that helps at all.

{Blake Lively in a Marchesa dress I would do bad things to}

5. What trend are you loving right now?

Big gaudy rings, rosaries, sandalbooties, blue eyeshadow, colorful leggings

6. Where do you like to shop?

Everywhere. Frequented most often are F21, Winners, and Sephora, but I want to get into thrifting.

7 Are you an impulsive buyer or not?

Not. But with makeup, maybe.

8. How has your style evolved over the last few years?

From bad mini skirts and "bar star" style to class and poise. From being a walking advertisment to wanting to create a look that's all my own.

BAD2007.

short shorts, boobs pushed up, necklace overload.

GOOD =)

skinnies/leggings with short skirt, minimal accessories so as not to overload.

BAD

2007

Walking advertisement for Louis Vuitton, bad skirt.

GOOD=)

Black tie sexy with no adverstising

Favorite Perfume Ads

I am definitely drawn in by beautiful, expensive perfume ads. They always tell a story, and give me a visual idea of what scent is encased in the glass bottle.

My Number One Fave:

Miss Dior Cherie
Such a sweet and charming ad campaign. I love how incredibly French and darling it looks. I purchased this perfume duty free on my way back from England back in 2005, when it first came out. It has quite a spicy, but also sweet, very unique smell to it that I grew to love over time.

Chanel No 5
I loved the commercial more than the print ad for this one. It was again so very French, and ultra glamorous with Nicole Kidman as the starlet. I couldn't find many still images of the commercial, but the below one captures the over all feel of it quite nicely. It was a "race against time" sort of ad, and I couldn't help but get caught up in the exquisite rush myself.

The print ad:

Flora by Gucci

I can just imagine the breeze that is blowing her silk dress carries the sweet floral scent of the perfume on it's wings.

Gucci
This ad is more modern and chic. Not as nice as the above, but still eye catching. I have yet to smell this, but I imagine a bolder scent, with no florals.

Chloe
Again, more '60s mod inspired. I wouldn't really expect an ad like this for the overly floral Chloe, but I like it none-the-less. This is the fave perfume in my collection.

Some Vintage Perfume Ads:

Recognize this face? ^

For fun I decided to create my own perfume ads from old pics on my blog. Not saying I'm perfume model material, but it was fun to give them names and dream up what their scent would be like.

Secret Wish
Delicate, light floral, with vanilla undertones. Only the closest of close can catch a drift of it's subtle enchantment.

Vintage Heart
Romantic and classic, a musky vanilla with subtle gardenia traces

Maybe one day my dream of creating a perfume will come true. I remember trying to create a perfume when I was a little girl. I crushed flowers and mixed it with water and hand cream in a little plastic bottle with a heart shaped top. It was sweet smelling but short lived, for perfumes need preservatives in order to last.

I am still going to show you my perfume collection in an upcoming post. It is not as big as I would like, as my faves are usually the highest price ones.

I also want to say that I've decided to do another giveaway, and will be opening it in the beginning of July. This is my best giveaway to date, as I will be giving away my top favorite beauty products. They are all high end products and will include my favorite mascara, lipstick, sunless tanner and more.

Tell Me

What is your favorite perfume?

"Fresh Squeezed" and a Little Shopping

Nicole by OPI "Fresh Squeezed" Don't mind my mangled cuticles...

But I LOVE this color! I didn't think I could pull orange off, but this is such a great summery shade .. it makes me thirsty for refreshing orange juice just looking at it. Consistency of the polish is great, too: it went on smooth, not like a lot of polishes that look streaky and patchy.

I also had a nosey in Winners today .. and lookie what I found:

Only $14.99! ... This pic doesn't do much justice, but in my mind's eye I can see it with some cute shorts and wedges.

And this shirt. It's quite form fitting, and I think it will look good with my black skinnies and ruffle booties.

***

I hope you had a great weekend. Mine was relaxing and so divine. The weather was in the high twenties, so hopefully I got a bit of a tan.

Last night, (Saturday) me and the man watched Michael Jackson's "This is It". I loved it! I couldn't help but sing along and dance in m chair the whole time .. I'm sure the vodka and grapefruit juice had nothing to do it it. =P

I also finished The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell. (Prequel to SATC).. It was good, but not great. Good for a beach vacation.

Did you have a good weekend?

MAC Pink Nouveau Lipstick!

Hi, My Lovelies!!

I hope you are all having a fantastic weekend.
I decided to show you my new pink lipstick .. MAC's Pink Nouveu. (Still not sure how to say Nouveau .. any French mademoiselles out there?)

Shade description: Bright Pink (Satin)

I had no plans for my lunch hour on Friday, so decided to head to the Bay and browse the makeup counters. I gravitated towards the MAC lippies like I always do, and proceeded to select this vibrant pink from the pack.

What do you think? My liner is a tad dark, but I am quite fond of the shade .. I like that it's a deeper pink than what I'm used too .. it's not as pale as Gaga Glam or Saint Germain, but still perfectly light pink. I tried, but after buying Saint Germain and wearing it a couple times, I came to the conclusion it just wasn't for me or my skintone. This one on the other hand ... I'm liking!

What's Your Love Story?

Hello, Dolls

I decided it would be fun to tell the story of how I met my fiance. Everyone loves a good love story, right?

It was October 2009, and I had just been dumped for the final time by my on-off boyfriend of three years. Hell hath no fury like a bitter woman scorned, and I attempted to cope with furious scrawls in the back of a notebook I carried around with me. I was a mess, but surprisingly, a sense of awakening seemed to slowly be breaking through as well.

You know the phase everyone goes through, where they would rather be in a crappy relationship, then be alone? They are so scared of being by themselves they will put up with pretty much any type of treatment no matter how vile it is? If you've never endured this, consider yourself lucky, because 99% of the girls I know, have. It's a maturity thing. Well I'd reached the point (and age) where I finally thought "screw it". I don't care if I'm alone, I don't care if I don't have someone to lean on. Something clicked in my head. You have to KNOW what you want before you will ever get it, right?

So three days after my world came crashing down, I was headed home on the train, scrawling in said therapeutic notebook. The train was half full, and some guy sat down next to me.

I hate the train. I hate sitting next to complete strangers. I hate people invading my personal space. I leaned closer towards the window, but not before giving the guy a quick once over. Tall, business clothes, leather jacket, nice hair, 26ish? ... looked kind of Russian in my opinion. Oh well, he definitely didn't seem to notice me (probably had a gf/wife he was heading home to), so I turned back to the emo world I'd created on the Hilroy page, attempting to conjure up the perfect word to express the despair I was feeling.

"Can I ask what you're writing about?" a sweet voice interrupted by thoughts about 10 minutes later.

As I said before, I hate the train. I most definitely hate when strangers on the train try and strike up conversation. But (shocker) I didn't feel creeped out, or invaded. I turned to look at the guy sitting next to me and saw a non threatening, almost comforting face looking back at me.

"Oh ummm," I stumbled embarrassingly. "Just some poetry." (Poetry? Who writes poetry in this century? I knew what he was thinking. Now I was the creepy stranger on the train he wished he didn't talk to)

"Cool!" He replied. "Do you like writing a lot?"

Again, I don't know what it was about him, but there was something that made it so easy to talk to him.

We continued talking for the remainder of the train ride, until he got off a couple stops before me. I had no doubt been wondering in my head (like any girl does) what would happen up until that point. How do you casually pick someone up on the train, without looking like a creep? Was he just wanting some pleasant conversation with the person next to him?

"Email me one of you poems," he said with an adorable smile that I still remember to this day. He slid a business card out from his wallet before standing up.

So Tall.

I went home and immediately looked in the mirror. Ewww. You know how you look at the end of a long work day? Make-up is worn off, hair kind of greasy, or at least lost most of it's style? My jacket was hideous. I'd bought it years earlier at a Club Monaco outlet, but it was far too big, and a plain grey color. I looked boxy in it, and the only reason I'd thrown it on was because we were getting the first chilly weather of the year, and it was the first warm jacket I could find in my mad dash to work that morning.

Hmmmmm, I thought. This guys definitely scored points for talking to me when I looked like this. I mean how awesome is it to know, that even when you look close to your worst, a handsome guy still obviously finds you attractive enough to start a conversation? I wasn't decked out in 400 dollar jeans and a low cut top at a bar; while I teetered drunkenly on 4 inch heels; hair and makeup perfect, when I caught his eye. He wasn't a dirtbag looking for an easy catch.

I didn't know what to think during the next few days, but I took a chance and emailed him anyways. We carried on days of friendly conversation before our first official "date". (Sushi - and I made sure I looked damn good for that date, after the state I was in when he met me.)

Naturally there were some big questions I had to ask myself, like whether I was jumping in too soon after I'd just broken up with my ex, but I couldn't argue the way I felt, and the way everything just happened. I didn't consciously decide I wanted to be with him, it just happened to me, and I couldn't stop it.

All I can say is that when you know, you just know. It's so cliche, but it's the truth.

And I think everything happens for a reason. The hell I went through with guys before, I firmly believe it all happened to point me in the right direction of meeting Ryan.

So you have to know what you want. Truly know what you want, and be ok with being alone. Because a new door can only open once the last one is fully closed!

(The earliest pic I have of us .. back when I was a blondie)

Beds of Paradise

Anyone who knows me, knows I LOVE to Sleep.

I love luxurious bedding with soft down duvets and goose down pillows.
As long as I get everything done I need to get done during the day, I'm quite content with over indulging myself. Some call it laziness, I call it heaven.
Me and my man are a somewhat dangerous combination, because he loves sleep just as much, if not more than me. He enters a deep hybernation-like coma each night, and waking him up can prove to be challenging. One of our main highlights of the weekend is the knowledge of us being able to sleep in =)I love dreaming that I'm a princess in castle, tucked away in 500 thread count egyptian cottons, in an isolated wing down a marble hallway.
I visited Warwick Castle in England a few years back, and literally wanted to jump into all the exhibits and just live there forever. Especially the Queens dresssing room =)

***

Or in a presential suite on a massive cruiseship, being lulled to sleep by the faint motion of the ocean waves.

****

Or that I live in Victorian times, and have a Cinderella-esque coach, with a bed in the back that I sleep in peacefully while being transported by horses.

^This would have been my little girl self's dream bed ^

^For now I'll have to settle for my current sleeping quarters, complete with fluffy cat. But one day I assure you, I will take my love for sleep to a level beyond imagination, with a bed fit soley for a Queen.

Some Afterwork Fun

Us girls who work together went out after work for some drinkies to celebrate Chantal's bday. Her actual party will be this Saturday, but no harm in having some fun a bit early, right?

Just felt like sharing some actual pics, other than just fashion and beauty pics like most of the time. I've been a bit hesitant to post pics of "everyday life" like I would on my facebook, but do you think I should start doing so?

Hope you're having a good weekend.=)
